#GOSSIP Rare Full Moon on Christmas Day

Not since 1977 has a full moon dawned in the skies on Christmas. But this year, a bright full moon will be an added gift for the holidays. December’s full moon, the last of the year, is called the Full Cold Moon because it occurs during the beginning of winter. The moon’s peak this year will occur at 6:11 a.m. EST

This rare event won’t happen again until 2034. That’s a long time to wait, so make sure to look up to the skies on Christmas Day. As you gaze up at the Christmas moon, take note that NASA has a spacecraft currently orbiting Earth’s moon. NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission has been investigating the lunar surface since 2009. As we look at the moon on such an occasion, it’s worth remembering that the moon is more than just a celestial neighbor, said John Keller, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The geologic history of the moon and Earth are intimately tied together such that the Earth would be a dramatically different planet without the moon. LRO has collected a treasure trove of data with its seven powerful instruments, making an invaluable contribution to our knowledge about the moon.

A Liberian has died of Ebola in the first recorded case of the disease since a country at the heart of an epidemic that has killed more than 11,000 people was declared virus-free on May 9 after going 42 days without a new case.




The body of a 17-year-old tested positive for Ebola in Margibi County and authorities have begun tracing people the victim may have come into contact with while infected, Deputy Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah said on Tuesday.
“There is no need to panic. The corpse has been buried and our contact tracing has started work,” Nyenswah told Reuters. Margibi is a rural area close to the capital Monrovia, and is home to the country’s main international airport.

The Supreme Court of the United States of America on Friday finally legalised same sex marriage throughout the whole country.
Before the announcement, only states which had passed the legalisation allowed same-couple marriages, but under the new ruling all 50 states in the country would allow same sex marriage.

The issue of same sex marriage has led to significant changes in matrimony laws including a court ruling over 50 years ago that legalised interracial marriage.
This new ruling means that the ban on gay marriages in 14 US states has been cancelled. The states which forbid it are geographically situated in the “Bible Belt” areas of the Southern US.
Today’s ruling means the decision from Cincinnati’s Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the right of states to maintain “the traditional definition of marriage”  has been cancelled.
A 5-4 decision with the majority opinion written by Justice Anthony Kennedy made the decision possible.
He wrote of same sex couples: “Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.
