Former Rivers state House of Assembly member murdered in Port Harcourt

A former member of Rivers State House of Assembly, Monday Eleanya who recently decamped from PDP to APC, was murdered by unknown gunmen in Port Harcourt yesterday Feb. 11th. Eyewitnesses said the deceased who represented Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni constituency in Rivers State House of Assembly between 1999 to 2003 under the platform of the PDP, was driving out of his Ada George road, Port Harcourt residence when the gunmen struck, shooting him at close range.

Increased electricity tariff : Fashola appeals to Nigerians, says it's a bitter pill we must swallow

 

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has appealed to Nigerians to accept the new increase in electricity tariff, saying it is a bitter pill we must swallow.

He made the appeal during the second monthly meeting with stakeholders in the power sector in Lagos‎ today February 8th 

“Importantly, I understand that people who have been disappointed over a long time will feel a sense of concern that again tariffs have gone up. But the truth is that these tariffs ought to have been there from day one. I don’t know why the government of yesterday was not courageous enough to tell us this was the price. It is a painful pill that I must appeal that we swallow. It is like quinine and malaria. It’s painful; it’s not sweet, I know that, but I do it because we are not left with many choices. This is the first major decision in power that this administration has taken. There are other problems. I can only appeal for some understanding and some trust that we do this in the best interest of our country"he said.

Oliseh tenders apology letter to NFF board over his rant on youtube

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has tendered an apology to the board of the Nigerian Football Federation NFF over his recent rant on youtube. In two separate videos he posted on his Youtube channel on Saturday February 6th, Oliseh blasted his critics and accused some of his former colleagues of spearheading a smear campaign against him over the team's loss at CHAN. A source close to Oliseh who confirmed to Sahara Reporters, said that the letter has been sent to NFF

“Oliseh has just sent a letter apologizing for his utterances and actions. He said he is sorry, that he never wanted to attack the NFF or embarrass them, but rather he wanted the whole world to‎ know they have not been given money. He also said he has been very frustrated after the heavy attacks on him and his team after their exit from the CHAN.”.

When I was in prison, I had joy' - Obasanjo

While speaking at the 50th anniversary of the Bible Society of Nigeria held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, La‎gos, former President Obasanjo said that he had joy and maintained a bubbly ‎ disposition while he served his prison term during the Abacha era. Obasanjo was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 after he was convicted for his involvement in the plot to overthrow the late Head of State, Gen. Abacha. He was released after Abacha's sudden death in 1998 and became president in 1999.

"When I was in prison, I had joy. I was always bubbly, teaching and preaching to other prisoners. ‎It was because of the joy I had found in God, although it can be said to be abnormal that one is in prison and is happy. I was put in jail, even though I didn’t deserve it.” ‎he said

12 Asian men sentenced to 140 years for the repeated rape and sexual abuse of a 13 year schoolgirl

Sex gang of twelve Asian men showed no sympathy as they repeatedly raped a 13 year old vulnerable schoolgirl. The teenager was physically and psychologically abused as she was passed around in turns by the heartless men in an underground park.


Bradford Crown Court heard how the men were led by ringleader Ahmed Al-Choudhury who facilitated most of the offences but then fled abroad, eleven were jailed for rape and a twelfth man was jailed for sexual activity with a child under 16. 

Judge Roger Thomas QC condemned the "insolent and disrespectful behaviour" the accused showed in court which he said reflected their treatment of their victim. 

"None of these defendants had any concern for the victim, they were totally uninterested in her welfare and what damage they were causing her.The victim clearly demanded pity and understanding but their view of her was heartless and demeaning.

"They saw her as a pathetic figure who had no worth and who served no purpose than to be an object that they could sexually misuse and cast aside.

"They showed her no shred of decency or humanity when as a vulnerable child she so needed care and understanding."

The court heard their victim now has post-traumatic stress disorder and clinical depression. 

In a statement, she told the court:

 "My perception of what a normal relationship is warped. Trust issues affect every aspect of my life. I have also had many physical effects. I was physically assaulted and punched and kicked and these hurt when I am tired.

"My moods are very variable and can be up and down at any time. I have no coping mechanisms and feel out of control.  my anxiety and stress levels have been increased. I have struggled to remain in control of my emotions and life in general.

Khloe Kardashian reportedly dumps James Harden

Khloé Kardashian has reportedly dumped boyfriend James Harden. A source reportedly confirmed to UsWeekly that she dumped him weeks ago.
    

Rumours have been circulating that Khloe had dumped James several times before,  after she went back to her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, who nearly died after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel last October and took care of him.

"James has been great. He's been very supportive with everything," she told Ryan Seacrest in November. "I'm sure there was, of course, times that he was uncomfortable with some of the things, but I'm a very honest person and I have nothing to hide.… He's been great and I've been open and honest."

Borno governor faults Senator’s claim that most LGAs in the state are still in control of Boko Haram

Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, has faulted claims by Senator Kaka Garbai representing Borno Central in the senate, that most of the Local governments areas in the state are still in the control of Boko Haram members. While speaking to newsmen after a condolence visit to Dalori community over the weekend, Garbai said; 

 "From my count, only three local government are fully liberated, 21 local governments partially occupied by insurgents, that is there is still some level of Boko Haram occupation side by side the military or any other constituted authority".

Reacting to this, the state Governor, Kashim Shettima, said the statement credit to Garbai was either as a result of emotional outburst or he was misquoted. ‎Kashim said this while speaking to newsmen after he returned from Saudi Arabia yesterday February 8th

“It is either the senator was emotional or misquoted. The military has recorded tremendous successes in the fight against Boko Haram in the last six months. You know Ngala, Dikwa and some areas were recently liberated and as the chief security officer of the state, I can confidently say Boko Haram has been decimated, demoralised and degraded. Borno is better off than it was six months ago.”‎he said
