I won't resign- NFF boss Amaju Pinnick says

Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has come out to defend his term in office after critics called on him to resign following Super Eagles failure to qualify for AFCON 2017.

Amaju highlighted his achievements with other national football teams during his tenure as enough proof his stewardship has been a success and categorically stated he won't resign as he had a four year tenure to complete.

"I was elected by the Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation for a four-year team and I don't see why I should be asked to resign with over two years to serve," said Pinnick. With all due respect, I don't think we have done badly in these past one and half years that we have been in office and I have a four-year mandate which I intend to see through. When we came in we had a case running for nine months and this affected us. "In between we won Fifa Under 17 World Cup, we won the Africa Women's Championship and we also qualified for the women' s Under17 and U20 World Cups coming up this year. “I think we have achieved. Again we have very young Super Eagles players that should be the future of the game in the country. On the choice of Kaduna as venue of the Afcon match against Egypt, we picked Kaduna because of the passion the people have for the game and the fact that the venue boasts of the best pitch in the country presently and they stood behind the team all through. Aside from that, the Super Eagles have never lost a match there so it was all these that we considered on picking the Ahmadu Bello Stadium to host Egypt,” he said.

FIFA bans Ivory Coast footballer Emmanuel Eboué for 1 year

FIFA, the world's football governing body has banned Ivory Coast and Sunderland defender Emmanuel Eboué for one year. FIFA passed the judgement on the former Arsenal defender this morning for refusing to pay his agent for agent fees owed.

This means won't be able to play football for 360 days effective from this morning until the fee is completely paid. The ban will be lifted once he pays up. Read FIFA's full statement after the cut.

''Emmanuel Eboué, who has represented Côte d’Ivoire and is currently registered for the English club Sunderland A.F.C., is to serve a ban on taking part in any football-related activity that will last for one year or until he pays the total outstanding amount owed to his former agent if this occurs before the one-year ban has elapsed.'' The origins of the case involve a decision passed by the single judge of the FIFA Players’ Status Committee in July 2013 regarding a contractual dispute according to which Mr Eboué was ordered to pay the players’ agent Mr Sébastien Boisseau an amount owed to him based on the representation agreement between the two parties.
The decision was taken on the basis of the FIFA Players’ Agents Regulations in force at the time (2008 edition). ''On 9 September 2014, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to sanction Mr Eboué with a fine of CHF 30,000 for failing to comply with the decision of the single judge of the Players’ Status Committee on the basis of art. 64 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The player was also granted a final period of grace of 120 days to settle his debt, upon failure of which the creditor – Mr Boisseau – would be entitled to request that a one-year ban on taking part in any football-related activity be imposed on Mr Eboué.''
Mr Eboué appealed to CAS against the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision, but the appeal was dismissed and the decision of the Disciplinary Committee confirmed in full. ''Following the expiry of the final deadline granted, Mr Boisseau requested that the one-year ban be imposed on Mr Eboué in accordance with the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. The relevant parties, including The Football Association which has been requested to implement said ban, have been informed accordingly.''

Egyptair line hijscked

Most of the passengers and crew who were on board a hijacked Egyptian plane that was forced to divert to Larnaca airport in Cyprus have been freed.
EgyptAir Flight MS181 was taken over after a passenger claimed to be wearing a suicide explosive belt.
Reports say the lone hijacker wants to talk to his estranged wife in Cyprus, and the Cypriot president has said the hijack is not a terrorist incident.
Egypt’s civil aviation minister said seven people remained on board the jet.
Sherif Fathy identified them as the pilot, the co-pilot, a female stewardess, a security officer and three passengers whose nationalities he refused to divulge.
He said negotiations with the hijacker – who had made no specific demands – were continuing, and that it was unclear whether the hijacker had taken explosives on board or whether he was bluffing.
An aircraft was being sent to Larnaca to pick up the passengers who had been released, Mr Fathy added.
Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said: “We are doing our utmost in order for everyone to be released and safe.” hijacked aircraft
In response to a reporter’s question about whether the hijacker was motivated by romance, he laughed and said: “Always there is a woman involved.”
EgyptAir said the Airbus A,320 was carrying 56 passenger from Alexandria to Cairo, along with six crew and a security official. It had earlier said 81 passengers were on board.
A senior Alexandria airport official said those on board the flight when it took off included eight Americans, four Britons, four Dutch, two Belgians, one Italian and 30 Egyptians.
“The pilot said that a passenger told him he had an explosives vest and forced the plane to land in Larnaca,” the Egyptian civil aviation ministry said in a statement.
Larnaca airport, on the south coast of Cyprus, has been closed and scheduled flights diverted elsewhere.
